After teaching in a remote community in the NT in 2006, my partner and I and a crew of family and friends set up Desert2Surf, a not-for-profit designed to give Indigenous kids in remote communities the opportunity to experience things that kids Down South take for granted. For over ten years we ran programs on a shoe-string budget where we typically flew small groups down to Victoria once or twice a year, primarily to go surfing, and flew up to the NT ourselves to run stand-up paddling in local waterholes for family groups.
